Ugh, can you rebuild Tcl with debugging symbols?  It would probably be
a good idea to build it with --disable-shared, as well (just being 
conservative, on some systems gdb has trouble with shared libraries).

I'm not sure I understand.  Does your system come with Tcl 8.0 and Tk 8.0?
If so, have you tried using them?
