Hello,
   Thanks for the advice.  I sent the irix java out
file directly - hope that arrived. The avcall problem is not caused by
configure being unable to find libffi; it found it anyway, but works the
same if I give an --with-ffidir....
    Make still gives up on defobj when it tries to use
avcall (avcall.h is the last file created by configure). Is there a way
I can direct make to use libffi? Would that mean amending the makefile,
or setting a variable for gcc?
