It should work if you do the build in a different build directory, e.g.
$ cd
$ mkdir -p build/swarm
$ cd build/swarm
$ $SWARMSRCDIR/configure --srcdir=$SWARMSRCDIR [etc]
(That problem is fixed, now.)
