I have successfully installed Swarm-2.0.1 from source on Mandrake-linux 6.0.
There is one PROBLEM: if you try to run ./configure as root, the process
will hang hard. With Marcus's help we determined that one part of the
config process will dump core, and this hangs .
The SOLUTION is to issue the command '# ulimit -c 0' before doing the
configure. (This sets the max size of a core dump to zero.)
Mandrake ships with the pgcc compiler, which provides automatic
optimization for Pentium class processors and above. It seems to work fine;
a large Swarm sim compiled and ran with the same output as on Redhat 5.1.
(pgcc identifies itself as egcs-2.91.66, and it produces the same harmless
error messages for which Marcus provided a patch to gcc-2.95. I haven't
tried if his patch applies to pgcc.)
Happy computing,
Sven
