This seems to be a weirdity with the version of Kaffe that
is distributed in the Windows Swarm distribution. 

If you use Sun JDK, i.e. copy the javaswarm script and hack it up for
JDK jre/lib/rt.jar and jre/bin/java paths, probing doubles will work.
