hdf5 support in R version 0.99

As some of you know, for the past 5 months or so I've been making an RPM
for the statistical package R. The package I distributed, named
R-base-with-hdf5, was compiled against hdf5, an RPM for which I was also
preparing, so people could use the NCSA's hdf5 data format in R and
swarm.(http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/)

Marcus Daniels, who originally authored the code in the R package to use
hdf5, has worked with Martyn Plummer, one of the R
packagers/programmers, to separate the hdf5 support from the R-base
package. Their work has paid off, because now the hdf5 support for R
can be offered as a separate R library, which Marcus called
hdf5_0.3.tar.gz. Martyn sent me a template to make an R RPM for that
support, and now it is done.

So, if you are using swarm, and R with hdf5 support, and you want the
newest R, you should install the R version 0.99 RPMS distributed
throughout the massive empire of R (cran), and then you can install the
addon library. I've sent the RPMS for hdf5-1.2.1 and R-hdf5 to the R
distributors. Until they make it available, you can look here for it:

hdf5-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm

To use this hdf5 package in conjunction with swarm, you still need to
use the swarm-enabled hdf5. I'm offering snapshots of the development
versions of swarm in the i386, i586, and i686 directories. As usual, if
it doesn't work, just send me an email and I'll try to fix it.

If you are not an RPM user (and don't you think you ought to be!), you
can build the hdf5 addon on your own. As far as I know, it is here
(that's where I got it)

   ftp://cran.r-project.org/pub/R/contrib/main/Devel/hdf5_0.3.tar.gz
You need the hdf5 distribution from NCSA installed, and R 0.99 should be
installed, before you try to create the addon library.
