Building correct shared libraries is a problem on older Irix configurations.
Current Irix (6.5) with current development tools (7.30, e.g. "ld -V"),
should work, although I haven't confirmed that Sun JDK works with the Java
layer. Development tool upgrades can be downloaded for free from SGI.
