YES! If your raster is just showing colors, no pixmaps, there is a much
faster way to directly output the results. Nelson Minor did it first,
Benedikt S. spruced it up a bit, and, as far as I know, the version I
patched up to work with newer Swarm editions still works. That was done
aug 11, 1999. I think I've used it recently. My version is not in the
point-and-click archive on www.swarm.org, but you can get it in
ftp://ftp.santafe.edu/pub/swarm/src/users-contrib/anarchy

Today in there I get this:

ftp> ls *aster*
227 Entering Passive Mode (192,12,12,17,179,220)
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
-rw-rw-r-- 1 133 35343 Aug 11 1999 BatchRaster-990811.tar.gz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 133 9761 Mar 15 2000 batchraster-movies.tar.gz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 133 5705 Jul 24 1997 zoomraster-movies.tar.gz

Mine is the one on top. I'm sorry I don't know why the date on
batchraster-movies is 2000, to the best of my recollection that one was
last revised in 1998, but you can look inside for yourself.
