I'd say take a look at JScrollPane in the Java API documentation and
implement your raster using standard Java interfaces (not swarm.space).

Another idea, one that should have excellent performance, but probably
isn't easily usable with Java/Swarm, is Daniel Kottow's pixelpark package.
He posted a message about here about that few months ago..
