I think that hdf is already ported. There is a patch in Fink.

My compiler is already  broken, it compiles, but  has a strange behavior.

 I propose that we made a private list in order to not  disturb other people.
I think your idea of using the tcl aqua version is an good idea, but 
how will you handle the links to X11 libraries in swarm?
