new swarm anytime?

I know staffing for swarm support is at a low point,
but i was just wondering if there is any plans
for a new release anytime in the near/medium future.

I ask because we haven't even applied "patches"
for some time, and we were thinking of doing so,
but before we do, I would like to find out if there will be
some "official" release (2.x.x) that would
make going to some 2.1.1patched version superfluous.
