I rather think we ought to find out what is wrong with your system, rather than plugging in old rpms. I swear with one hand on the Bible that the RPMs for 2.1.140 do work here on several RH7.3 systems and for at least one new user this week in swarm-support, so I'm really puzzled why you get that one error. It seems to me almost as though some file in your tcl/tk distribution must be damaged. I will be stunned if swapping out the RPMS makes the problem go away.

If your RedHat system is on the internet, you might consider creating a temporary user account for me and privately emailing me the account name/pw. I keep having this suspicion that something obvious has gone wrong.

Oh, well.

I found an old copy of that rpm, but I think you will run into problems going that way. hdf5 is very fussy about which gcc and glibc you have.

Anyway, I dumped them here:

Note you are looking back a long time there. You might consider rebuilding hdf5 from the SRPM file.

        Dear Paul,

in the attampt of working around my problem with RH7.3 (java apps don't work due to a tcl/tk error) I'm going back to swarm rpm 2.1.94, that I remember were working on a Linux box of one of my colleagues.

So I need an old hdf5 distribution, but at

http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/Swarm-2.0_RPMSforRH6/

hdf5-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm seems to be no more on line.

        Many thanks for your help,

        Pietro
