Hi!
I had sent the following questions to this list some time ago but didn't
get any replies. Can somebody please help if they can ...
Thanks.
Hello All,
I have the following two high-level questions about Swarm.
1. Is there a way where a user can mouse-click inside a Swarm grid and I
can detect that click inside my Swarm application? To give a context, I am
trying to let the user create a very "simple" map which basically consists
of some lines (boundaries). This will be like an initial step before the
simulation is started. When the user will click on "Start", I want to
detect the mouse clicks (like a colored line) and then initialize my
internal map (data structure) accordingly.
Yes, ZoomRaster can answer mouse clicks. Heatbugs does that; right
click on bug to get a probe. I used that in my version of the Conway
game of life to let people create starting conditions. I think also it
is in the Schelling segregation model. I recall that in the Opinion-2.0
code, there is a thing where you can click on points in the grid and
some info gets highlighted. If you dig around in
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/MySwarmCode you will find those
things.
2. Is there a way to have a swarm application run from a browser (since I
am using Java, I am thinking about an applet)?
Sorry, can't help with that much. I'm not a programmer by trade and
when I hear them talking about these things, I don't really understand
until I make the investment to actually make these things work. I know
for sure I've seen Swarm models run in web browsers, and it has been
done through several separate avenues. The newer swarm snaps have some
COM/DCOM stuff Marcus Daniels worked on. I know other people have
written their own connectors between Swarm and the browser.
I will really appreciate any responses ... Thanks.
