They are fast builds, it's all scripts except for a bit of C code in 
libtool.   It won't interfere with anything if you configure like:

./configure --prefix=$HOME/packages/auto

and then Swarm's autogen.sh like so:

PATH=$HOME/packages/auto/bin:$PATH ./autogen.sh
