Sorry for this follow-up to my own mail,

When I use
in "$TEXMACS_REDUCE_PATH/install/tmprint.red
in my .reducerc, I see a number of messages, the last of them is
linelength-orig
When I click the icon with scissors after that, I see
Do you really want to redefine the system function `linelength'? (Y or N)
It seems that this is the reason why the process hungs.
