I like the idea of having tau and mu, but don't really recognize any GNUs.
Anyway, I don't care about recognizing a GNU in the design. No need for the red
dot.
I like the first metal type flavor design, with both letter blocks in parallel
(not in parallel is a bit messy). I would prefer the tau and mu from within
TeXmacs.
Indeed, you can also play with the textures. One main critism of the current
icon
is that its to dark; one might take a lighter texture. One might also think
about
using gold or cupper for the tau and the mu. Finally, I did like the chip feets
from the current icon: it is about taking typography to the digital era.
Anyway, next time we will meet, we can discuss with a sheet of paper.
