Hi David,
 I think that the prompt is set up in the scheme code for plugins. Adrian Soto 
worked recently on the Python plugin. It would be great have something like 
iPython in TeXmacs. 

Thanks for your help. Personally I do not have  a lot of time to allocate to 
plugin support (I'm working on other TeXmacs features right now) but if you 
have specific questions, keep asking in the mailing list and I and the other 
will try to provide some support.
