Hi Michael,

  that version of Freetype is required if you have the new pdf renderer -/configure'd (which btw. won't compile in Windows even with a newer Fretype because of some other problems, so don't bother). 

Try with --disable-pdf-renderer

configure:7752: error: cannot find FreeType or your version is < 2.4.8.

If you have several versions installed please use the proper freetype-config script to set

the environment variables FREETYPE_CFLAGS and FREETYPE_LDFLAGS.

I'm doing this because I'd like to try to make the R interface work on windows, too. Though I've no idea what I'm doing. So if anyone has a hint, that would be great, too.
