(For example, Big5 encoding plus some English text in UTF-8) Ah, of course, you are right! Then we should require US-ASCII, since it is the most backward compatible and conservative encoding of all. This means that currently we could not manage software-literary-patents through GNUN, until the original article is fixed as you suggested in your first message.
