hello

i would like you to fix some bad links in the FAQ, here's a list:

2.1 ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/hurd/debian
i installed Debian GNU/Hurd form the K5 mini iso (25 mb) and managed
to get network working (it wasn't too hard). having a supported nic
and help from the mach doc directory and #hurd on freenode
iso location: http://ftp.gnuab.org/pub/gnu.iso/K5/
and i setup my sources.list like this:
deb http://ftp.gnuab.org/debian unstable main
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main
deb-src ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian/ sid main contrib
deb-src http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sid/non-US main contrib
(don't worry ftp.gnuab.org wroks, it's just it doesn't have 2nd dns
right now, and the first one broke for the moment, for now it's
here http://dijkstra.uab.es/pub/gnu.iso/K5/ but don't link to that)

2.3 http://www.nongnu.org/thug/gnumach_hardware.html
that link is 404

3.2 why not give a concrete answer? (on the debian link there
isn't one either)
(the following configures eth0 to 10.0.0.3/24 with gateway 10.0.0.1)
settrans -fgap /servers/socket/2 /hurd/pfinet -i eth0 -a 10.0.0.3 \
-g 10.0.0.1 -m 255.255.255.0
(this configures to send dns queries to 10.0.0.1)
echo nameserver 10.0.0.1 > /etc/resolv.conf

4.4 550

6.3 A effort -> An effort
http://people.debian.org/~jbailey/oasis/group/Debian/index.html
i know the dd pages have to be re-enabled by the dd's after the
compromise, i'll ask jbailey on irc about this.

Debian specific things i noticed:
to get apt-get running nice i had to add
/sbin:/usr/sbin to my $PATH
i did so by adding the following to my .bashrc of root
export PATH=$PATH:/sbin:/usr/sbin

to get irssi-text working i had to do this:
(i notified the debian package maintainer already by mail)
export PERL5LIB=$PERL5LIB:/usr/share/perl/5.6.1/

the upstream and debian developer of thy fixed thy
to run on my machine (thy is a webserver that can do
directory listing and cgi)

i have Debian GNU/Hurd running on a sparc amd k6-2 500 mhz
machine, i would like to provide shell account to
GNU/Hurd developers and debian developers who want their
software to work on it.

what do you think about this? and is there any other way
i can help with?

the installation worked fairly well:
- boot cd
- install the hurd
- reboot, native-install, reboot, native-install
- fix menu.lst from debian gnu/linux
- fix /etc/apt/sources.list like above
- apt-get update then apt-get install software

yours
gürkan

ps: i like {Debian|the} GNU/Hurd.
