I did not understand this part. I applied your patch, compiled with
xemacs 21.4, restarted xemacs and, it seems *not* to work. I first
compiled a tex document with pdflatex, then with latex but the command which 
was used
was: 



Running `LaTeX' on `new' with ``latex --synctex=1
-interaction=nonstopmode "\input" new.tex''

Well this is not helpful for those of us, who for some reason do not or
cannot use evince 3.8. I prefer your solution and if it works I will
lobby to include it.
