Hi John, thank you for the tutorial.

VLC needs ffmpeg >= 0.6 in order to convert in WebM. Then if you use a distribution with ffmpeg 0.5.x (i.e. Ubuntu Lucid) it doesn't work.

But on Ubuntu Lucid is possible to install a brand new gstreamer version so you can use any gstreamer-based video converter to have webm, i.e. Arista, Transmageddon or PiTiVi.
