what needs to be done to teach a2ps about new encodings?

Recently I attempted to print an email msg via a2ps.  It had the
following content type:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-2022-jp"
a2ps reported that iso-2022-jp was an unknown encoding.  What do I need
to do so that it is a known encoding?
