Retaining a user's formatting may or may not be a good thing, but it's not APL if it does so.  Languages such as C, C++, Java, etc. are Algol-style languages.  They retain the user's format.  APL is not.

It's one of the reasons I dislike Go. It automatically reformats your code when compiling.
