Please allow me to post a late contender: block map.
Please, see my former objections to "map".
If not explicitly specified on the command line, create a block map with <name of output file>.map - e.g. when recovering to ~/rescue.img, create ~/rescue.img.mapWhen destination is a device, create <sourcedevname>.map in the current directory - e.g. sda1.map for /dev/sda1 -> /dev/sdb1 clone.
Thanks for your suggestion, but I am not interested in the impossible task of making ddrescue idiot-proof. It only complicates things and lets stale files floating around.
Regards, Antonio.
