--rw-test might be best, seems more explanatory, or if more detailed required, --allow-rw-test ?
I have finally used --same-file because I have discovered some interesting uses in addition to read/write testing:
'--same-file' Allow INFILE and OUTFILE to be the same file or device. This can be used to test the writing ability of a drive. It can also be used to copy part of a file to another location inside or beyond the end of the same file if '--input-position' and '--output-position' are different. The only incompatibility I have found is with --truncate. I have also had to work around a "bad file descriptor" error with --preallocate.
I expect to release it tomorrow. Best regards, Antonio.
