It is likely that those steps are not needed; but it just seems like a
good idea to copy onto a fresh formatted NTFS partition, instead of an
NTFS partition that possibly contains corrupt data; similarly, ntfsfix
may not be needed since, if ddrescue does its job, the NTFS partition
in question would be good data. Yet, it is possible that the original
partition had some sort of problem; probably, considering this, it
would have made more sense to do an ntfsfix on /dev/sda1 instead of
/dev/loop0p1.
I will keep in mind that it may not matter if I use mkfs in the case
of copying one partition onto another. Thank you for your questions.
:-)
Thinking about it again, it may be wise to do an ntfsfix on /dev/sda1
and /dev/loop0p1 considering that you don't know if /dev/sda1 has a
completely healthy filesystem, and if you have any additional space
left in the partition you are copying onto after the copy, ntfsfix may
fix any problems that arise from the extra space in the partition.
Even so, I think I'm mainly talking about theory more than practice,
at this point; nevertheless, I will probably run ntfsfix on both
partitions, if I had the choice. :-)
Maybe someone can advise me of the details that we are talking about,
if anyone is interested?
Best regards,
