Hello Bruno, I didn't expect you to reverse-engineer anything; if it were
possible to provide a small reproducer I would have done so, and the fact that
this is not even possible says a lot about autoconf.
At this point my question is still purely exploratory: I don't even know what
the error _means_, and my hope was that the "too many loops" message somehow
rings a bell. So far the only thing I could find out is that it happens with
the newer gettext release.
In the meantime I found out that the bug also happens without the disable-nls
patch, i.e. plain gettext-0.23 with nls enabled. The alpine configure run also
works fine again when I replace /usr/share/aclocal/gettext.m4 with the version
from 0.22.5.
I hope this is a bit more useful. if not feel free to close because I don't
know how else to debug this.
