Here goes:
1. Unless the content goes through some kind of manual and/or automated
system for ensuring it complies with any agreed standards, then GNUpedia will
be little more than a collection of random web sites, which would be
pointless.
2. Many good potential contributors do not have even basic 'webmaster'
skills. They don't know HTML markup tags, they don't know when to use a .png
and when to use a .jpg, etc. We should design a system that makes it as easy
as possible for such people to contribute. They should be able to contribute
to at least some extent via a web browser interface.
3. IMHO, we should make a point of strict support for W3C standards.
4. To achieve this, it will be necessary to create some kind of centralised
Content Management System (CMS), with the info flowing as follows:
contributors -> CMS -> public-facing mirror(s) -> readers
5. The CMS could be based on software designed for this kind of task, e.g.
Zope or Midgard. There's a list of what's available at
http://www.camworld.com/cms/. (Most of it is free/open.)
6. It's no good asking non-techies to contribute "HTML", because many of them
would do it with FrontPage.
