I disagree, I see no reasons why we shouldn't have two 
encyclopedia. What your arguing is that if Emacs exists why Vi, if 
Pine exists why Mutt ?

True that in the long term one may fail to the other, but what we will 
gain even in failure will be better then what we will loose if we don't 
try at all.

Two encyclopedias one aim, two ways of getting there, share the 
data, co-operate. And if sometime in the future we find one of them 
has scalability problems the other one may still be able to survive.
