Well first of all you want to make sure you call it
GNE from now on :-)
I'd say the important things to express on the issue
of what GNE is are:

*) The free, open, GPL nature of it all
*) The unedited, open encyclopedia concept
*) The idea that the tech etc comes from scratch, its
its an attempt to create a complete "people's"
encyclopedia from scratch, as it were
*) It's "sister-hood" with Nupedia
*) The way it is community run, with Hector overseeing
things

After that, all we'll need in the FAQ for newcomers I
suppose is a breif summary of the technical side (ie a
few lines on each idea, with any links to each that
have been made) and a brief summary of suggestions on
moderation etc. Just a taster to get newcomers
thinking along the lines we've gone down so far, so we
don't get people posting a message saying "I'm new
here, and I was thinking we could use XML...." *cue
groans*

Make it easy to join up whilst being up-to date with
the project, but not really long, not going into small
details like the exact XML markup we might use, or the
exact numbers of moderators etc.
