I checked it. The code itself functions. However the ifdef __WIN32__ not. I changed it in ifdef __CYGWIN__ and that functions. Obvious, this won't work for MINGW.

Can you try the attached patch?
I think it should solve the problem, but I can't test it myself because I
don't have a MS windows platform.
I'm not sure if the #define __WIN32__ macro is correct. You may have to
experiment a bit.
