I'm not so sure.   Any recent version of psppire built against Gtk+ 2.22.x
still has the possibility to crash (depending on what the chosen icon theme
is).

We could just solve this by insisting on Gtk+ 2.24 or we could remove the
recent files menu items, or we could try to patch the broken Gtk install in
pspp's make install target.

I'm not sure that I like any of those solutions.
