The patch seems to work on Wine,  WindowsXP and Windows7. Creating a
directory greater as 255 characters is not possible on MSWindows so
that shouldn't be a problem.

I just released the package so we will find out if there might be a
problem in some strange situation. Let us wait for 2 weeks or so
before you submit the patch to gnulib.
