OK. Here is a first experimental patch. It just spits out some
information which *might* help us to work out what the hell is
going on.
HArry, if you could apply it to the HEAD and build a windows, binary
for Henry to try.
Henry, If you could run your test using the version which Harry supplies, and
post the messages that you get on the terminal.
We'll see if it provides anything interesting and continue from there.
