The citations from Moglen's mails, that you sent to gnu-prog-discuss on
2004-05-16, indicate that the issue is very weak. In particular he said
"there is no need to comb
the base of all our code looking for non-conforming instances."
There's no law that says that all years must be mentioned individually,
separated with commas.
For files that I maintain, I care about a pleasing and sensible look.
