Certainly.  Doing so now.  I use the FSF France's compiler farm:

Unfortunately, many of the more exotic hosts of interest often seem to
be unreachable.  I'm never able to get to any of the *BSD machines, and
even the macOS hosts are unavailable to me this time around--I was able
to exercise them a bit for the groff 1.23.0 release push, as I recall.

But none of that is newly true due to the changed regexes, if I
understand the patch.  So mostly, I'm happy if the Perl interpreter on
Solaris 10 gets the code compiled.  :)

If we need to add diagnostics to "pdfpic.tmac" to complain intelligibly
when various external resources aren't available, that's easily done,
and looks much less daunting to me than these high-calibre REs!

Still waiting on the build...will follow up.
