The default format of archives created by GNU tar is set at configure
time, so there's no use arguing about it.

Should Solaris maintainers/packagers wish to use POSIX.1-1988 format,
they'd configure tar as follows:
./configure DEFAULT_ARCHIVE_FORMAT=USTAR
