Hello,

you reported that many make mess in @caption.

In most cases, the commands should be fixed to really work as
expected.
The only exception is @footnote. I guess we should just forbid
it inside @caption. Where should the footnote go to?

There are two possibilities:

1) The footnote goes to the bottom of the page where the float ends up.

This is both very ugly and hard to implement.

2) The footnote goes to the very end of the caption, perhaps separated
with a line similar to the line above the normal footnotes at a bottom
of a page.

This could be implemented, but I don't think it's nice either.
And it brings problem with footnote numbering. You cannot use the
"global" footnote count, because of the floating.
You could use *, dag, ddag, ... for numbering.

To conclude, neither of these is worth the work.
Let's just forbid @footnote inside @capture, OK?

Speaking about it, would you agree that all of the commands you mentioned
should be forbidden inside @shortcaption?

Regards,
        Stepan Kasal
