That works; I did automake, then ./configure, then make BOOTSTRAP_PATH=/usr/local/bin,
and crashed with:

make[1]: *** No rule to make target `library.exports', needed by `all-am'.  Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/opt/chicken'
make: *** [all] Error 2

  

You may need a more recent Chicken to do a ./configure bootstrap.

The CMake bootstrap doesn't have this problem, it can use Chicken 2.3 (tested) and possibly older (untested).  However, the CMake build has not been extensively tested.
