I got my answer from some nice people on IRC.

The problem was I was trying to do the example in interpretative mode
instead of compile mode.

FYI, I don't think the compile function in geiser is working, cuz I
did try sending it off to the compiler and got the same message (which
tells me it was really sending it off to the interpreter).
