Already done. Any objection to making this opt-in would just be 
contrarian. To quote your words from the aforelinked discussion -- it 
ought not have been introduced as t:

(Re the balance of what is considerate; that seems a bit like if one 
were to insist on not raising another's faux pas because this would in 
itself be a faux pas.)
