Maybe I'm a little naive, but I don't see the point in
NOT allowing line continuation under specific circumstances
as long as the language is non-ambiguous. From my point of
view line continuation is more a formatting aid than a
feature of the cobol language, regardless what the standards
say. I always find it annoying to stumble over a highhanded
exception of a simple rule. I think that line continuation
should be allowed under all and every circumstances where the
semantic rules are not touched. This said I think that open-
cobol should be allowed to divert from dialects and bugs
of other cobol compilers for good reasons, at least as an
option.
