Oh, if it's groff's system-wide compatibility option then I agree
/etc/man.config can be altered to pass it for NROFF.
# NROFF is defined as "groff -Tascii" or "groff -Tlatin1";
NROFF /usr/bin/groff -Tascii -mandoc
Is it or is it a new grotty option?
