Hi Gergö (I hope I get your first and last name right),

indeed the results of your Hungarian long vowel umlauts look slightly
disappointing.

The situation improves slightly if you use \[u0150], \[u0151], \[u0170]
and \[u0171] instead of Ő ő Ű ű, at least on my system; . However, there
must be better solutions. I'll try to check over the weekend.

One option would be to use different fonts like Linux Libertine from the
standard selection based on the URW fonts, but that requires installing
different fonts. Peter Schaffter has a script for this purpose, it is
not too difficult to use. The standard fonts build Ő ő Ű ű on the fly,
and that's visible. Perhaps the font description files can be tweaked,
but using a font where letter heights and diacritics heights are well
balanced is better.

Best regards,

Oliver.

Hi groff mailing list,

This is my first time ever using a mailing list, so let me know if I'm doing
anything wrong. I have just recently started using groff, and I began tinkering
with it since I wanted to implement a reference style used by my university
(and literary studies in general) in Hungary.

I realized, however, that the "hungarumlauts" on the ő Ő ű and Ű glyphs are
placed incorrectly in the built-in fonts of groff used for the pdf device. For my
purposes, Times is the only font family in use, but this problem is present in all
available fonts that I tested. I am attaching a pdf file showing the problem and also a
small bash script I made that reproduces this fonts.pdf file.

Peter Schaffter showed me a workaround for this that does the job, however, it
would be the best if this were not needed.

I am not sure how to go about fixing this, but if anyone gave me some pointers,
I would be glad to give it a try!

Thanks for your help!

Best,
Gergő Gáspár
