Hi!

Woow, terrible.

Where do we go from here? Surely it must be possible for a non-profit
to open a bank account in France, thousands have done so before.
Regardless, it’s a fact that several of you already spent a whole lot of
energy on this—and this is much appreciated—so we need to find a way
forward that doesn’t involve burning anyone out.

Options that come to mind (but you guys probably know that some of these
don’t make much sense or have already been tried before):

  • Seek advice from similar not-too-big free-software-related
non-profits in France and in the EU (Debian France, Aquilenet, FDN,
Parinux, ABUL, FSFE, NixOS Foundation, noyb, whatever).

  • Try yet more banks, possibly passing on the burden to other people.

  • Open an account elsewhere in the EU.

  • Dissolve Guix Foundation in France, recreate it elsewhere in the EU,
where presumably another group would shepherd it.

  • Find a fiscal sponsor/hosting entity instead of having an
    independent org.

  • …

It sounds pretty much like starting anew, which I find hard to believe,
but I don’t know what to think.

What do people think?

Anyhow, thanks a lot to you Simon, Tanguy, Andreas, and everyone who
endured sweat and tears over the past year or so. It’s easy to feel low
at this point, but your work makes a real difference.

Ludo’.
