Ummm... what exactly do you mean by "the same password as in the passwd
file"? Do you mean you typed exactly what the passwd file contains?
The CVSROOT/passwd file contains a strongly-encrypted form of the password,
not the trivially-encrypted form in the ~/.cvspass file, nor the plain-text
password.
What was the exact error message you got?
