I think you copied the patch into the email and the tabs were turned
into spaces because of that.

Can you insert the patch into your email in another way (like M-x
insert-file or by using an attachment)?

And can you please write a ChangeLog entry when you send in a patch?
That makes it easier for us to read the patch.  It can make the
committing process go a bit faster.  See
http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards_40.html#SEC40 how to write a
ChangeLog entry.
