Can GNU run on OpenSOLARIS Kernel?
In theory it should be possible. However, why would we prefer
that to Linux?

licence permits a fork in one entire new project that
can be after be released under GPL?
The license of Solaris is incompatible with the GPL.
We could make a modified version of the kernel of Solaris,
but we could not release it under the GPL. Linux is better
in that regard.
