They have no way to disallow it: Even if you assign
your copyright to
the FSF, you still retain your right to relicense it
under whatever
way you want, including BSD and/or proprietary.
Of course the FSF itself will _usually_ only publish
it under GPL,
LGPL or GFDL, or one of those plus special
exceptions (like the
autoconf stuff).
Free-but-not-copyleft licenses allow me to share
with everyone,
including those who don't want to share. On the
other hand, copyleft
licenses allow me to share code only with those
whom I know would be
willing to share in return.
There is an on-going dispute in our community if it
should be "freedom
of" or "freedom from". We struggle with the words,
and meaning of
words. But I think that's really secondary.
Frankly, I have no idea
where this discussion is going or even what is being
discussed. It
may be a good idea for you to take it to private
mail, as it certainly
has nothing to do anymore with this project.
There is also gnu.discuss and other forums where
this topic is
somewhat relevant.
Thanks,
Marcus
